A Firmer, Lifted Look Without Surgery or Needles

SOFWAVE NEAR ME ISLIP | HUNTINGTON | SMITHTOWN | MASSAPEQUA | LONG ISLAND

You notice skin laxity in a photo before you notice it in the mirror. A softer jawline. Skin under the chin that doesn’t snap back. A brow that sits a little lower than it used to. At VITRA Aesthetics Clinic, we’re proud to offer Sofwave™, an FDA-cleared ultrasound treatment that tightens skin by rebuilding your own collagen.

We’re always looking for next-level technology for our patients, and Sofwave earned its spot in our treatment menu for a reason. This non-invasive treatment uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam technology (SUPERB™) to deliver focused ultrasound energy to the mid-dermal layer, where collagen and elastin are produced, separating it from older heat-based skin tightening devices. Our providers target the skin’s structural layer without guessing at depth or overtreating the surface.

Learn How Sofwave™ Tightens Skin From the Inside Out

Sofwave’s handheld applicator contains seven small ultrasound transducers. When activated, all seven fire at once, delivering energy to a fixed depth of about 1.5mm in the mid-dermis, while a cooling mechanism protects the skin’s surface. That combination lets us treat the structural layer without damaging the skin above it or reaching deeper than intended.

The ultrasound energy creates controlled thermal injury at that depth. Your body responds by activating fibroblasts, the cells that produce new collagen and elastin, and by tightening the collagen fibers already there. As the support structure rebuilds, the skin firms and lifts.

Sofwave uses ultrasound rather than light-based energy, so it works across a broad range of skin tones, including darker skin tones that pigment-sensitive lasers often exclude. That’s part of why we’re glad to have it alongside our other light and laser treatments.

What Can Sofwave™ Do For You?

Sofwave is FDA-approved to improve fine lines and wrinkles, and for lifting the eyebrow, submental (under-chin), and neck tissue, with a separate clearance covering skin laxity on the upper arms, abdomen, and above the knees. That means we can treat concerns on the face or the body with the same technology, just with a treatment plan built around the area.

Face and neck:

  • Softening early jowls and a loosening jawline
  • Tightening lax skin under the chin and along the neck
  • Lifting a heavy or drooping brow
  • Smoothing fine lines and improving overall skin texture
  • Addressing early signs of aging skin before they call for filler or surgery
  • Improving the appearance of acne scars

Body:

  • Firming loose skin on the upper arms
  • Tightening the abdomen after weight loss or pregnancy
  • Smoothing lax skin above the knees

A single session runs 30 to 45 minutes, and most patients need one or two treatments depending on how much laxity they’re starting with.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Sofwave™?

Sofwave is built for mild to moderate skin laxity, not significant sagging. At VITRA, we’ll walk through your skin’s condition, your goals, and your medical history together to confirm it’s the right fit before you book a treatment.

Patients who do well with Sofwave want a firmer, more lifted look without downtime, and aren’t ready for a surgical facelift. It also fits patients who’ve noticed early laxity around the jaw or neck but still have good skin quality overall.

If your main concern is significant excess or sagging skin or the dramatic lift of a surgical procedure, Sofwave won’t get you there on its own. It won’t replace the volume change fillers provide, either. We can help you figure out whether Sofwave alone is the right call or whether it makes more sense alongside another treatment.

What to Expect: Before, During, and After Sofwave™

Before Your Treatment

There’s little to prep. We’ll ask you to hold off on retinoids and harsh exfoliants for a few days beforehand and to come in with clean skin, free of makeup or lotion in the treatment area. Most patients don’t need a topical anesthetic cream, though we can apply one if you’re sensitive.

During Your Treatment

A session typically runs 30 to 45 minutes. As your provider moves the applicator across the treatment area, you’ll feel a warm, pulsing sensation while SofCool, the built-in cooling technology, protects the surface of your skin. Most patients find it comfortable enough to relax through.

After Your Treatment

There’s little to no recovery time necessary. Most patients go about their day, with only mild warmth or redness in the treated area that settles down within a few hours.

Results build over time instead of appearing overnight. You’ll start noticing changes over about 12 weeks as collagen remodeling continues. Clinical trials found a meaningful effect lasting up to a year after a single treatment. Depending on your skin’s starting condition, we may recommend a second session for a more complete result.

Sofwave™ Side Effects and Who Shouldn't Get Treated

Sofwave has a strong safety track record. Most patients experience nothing more than temporary warmth, mild redness, or slight swelling in the treated area, which resolves within a few hours to a day.

Sofwave isn’t recommended for patients with any of the following, so be sure to share your full history at your consultation:

  • Open wounds or active lesions in the treatment area
  • Severe or cystic acne in the treatment area
  • Pacemakers or other electronic implants in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy, a recent birth within the last three months, or breastfeeding
  • Active systemic or local infection
  • Active skin disease that could affect wound healing
  • A history of chronic drug or alcohol abuse
  • Significant scarring in the treatment area
  • A metal stent or implant in the facial area

We’ll review your medical history in detail before treatment to confirm Sofwave is safe for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sofwave™

Most patients describe a warm pulsing sensation rather than pain. The device has built-in cooling that protects the surface of your skin while the ultrasound energy works underneath, so most patients don't need a topical numbing cream, though we can apply one if you're sensitive.

Most patients see the results they want after one or two sessions. We'll get a clearer sense of your treatment plan once we've assessed your skin at your consultation.

Results typically hold for up to a year after a single treatment, and many patients come back for an annual session to maintain them, since collagen production naturally slows with age.

Both use ultrasound to stimulate collagen production, but at different depths. Sofwave works in the mid-dermis, closer to the skin's surface, which is why it's more comfortable and better suited to mild to moderate laxity. Ultherapy reaches deeper, into the muscle layer, which makes it a better fit for more significant sagging.

We'll help you figure out which one matches what you're dealing with, or if a combination makes sense.

Yes. Sofwave tightens and firms the skin itself, while Botox and filler address muscle movement and volume loss separately. Plenty of our patients pair Sofwave with their regular injectable routine for a more complete result.

No. Sofwave firms and lifts skin gradually through your own collagen, without surgery or incisions. A facelift removes and repositions tissue for a more dramatic, immediate change. If you're dealing with significant excess skin, Sofwave isn't a substitute, and we'll tell you that at your consultation.

Sofwave sits in an unusual spot. It’s less expensive and less involved than a surgical facelift, but a bigger investment than a single round of filler or neurotoxin. You're paying for the technology and the experience of the provider running it. Depth and technique both affect your results.

Be wary of discounted "Sofwave" sessions from providers who aren't properly trained on the device. Ask about your provider's Sofwave experience at your consultation, and don't be afraid to ask ours too.

What Other Skin Tightening Options Does VITRA Aesthetics Clinic in Long Island, NY Offer?

If Sofwave isn’t quite the right fit, or you want to combine treatments for a more complete result, we also offer EvolveX Body Reshaping & Skin Tightening for body laxity, RF Microneedling for deeper textural concerns, and HALO Laser Skin Resurfacing for patients also dealing with pigmentation or sun damage alongside laxity. For patients who’ve decided volume restoration is the priority, we carry dermal fillers from the Juvederm® and Restylane® families as well.
